Treat SF like Suu kyi

The United National Party (UNP) is of the opinion Gen Sarath Fonseka (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8356676.stm) should at least be treated like Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu kyi who was held under house arrest before being released by the Myanmar junta.

UNP deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya, who visited the former Army Commander at the Welikada prison today, said that Fonseka is being housed in poor living conditions wearing a prisoner’s uniform despite having led the military victory against the LTTE.

Jayasuriya noted that Fonseka at least he should be kept under house arrest like Aung San Suu kyi and not in prison.

Suu kyi was held under house arrest by the military government in Myanmar for several years before her release late last year amidst an international outcry.
